COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marian University invites Fond du Lac residents to the MLK Community Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19 on campus to honor Dr. King's legacy and hear Rev. Mary Council-Austin receive the MLK Spirit Award.  FDL Reporter

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Small business owners and aspiring founders can sign up for a free Small Business Clinic on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Moraine Park Technical College. Hosted by the University of Wisconsin Office of Business and Entrepreneurship, the event will offer expert sessions and one-on-one consulting to help local businesses grow.  Envision Greater FDL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Board of Education approved an operational referendum for Tuesday, April 7 that would let the district add up to $7.5 million annually through 2029-30 for improved campus safety and to ease staff cuts. Voters will consider a modest property tax change if the measure passes.  WBAY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance will join Winter Salt Week (January 26 to 30) to host free YouTube events at 12:30 PM CT that share smarter salt application tips to protect our local waterways.  Envision Greater FDL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marian University's men's hockey team (3-9-2 overall, 2-6-0 in NCHA) lost today to Lawrence 4-2 in the Battle of Highway 41 opener. Sophomore Edison Weeks scored early before Lawrence used a power play to take the lead and win the game.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Marian’s women’s ice hockey team rallied for a 5-4 overtime win at MSOE with three power-play goals and a game-winning goal from sophomore Zowie Hunter, marking their second overtime win this season.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Marian University men’s basketball defeated Dominican (72–45) after a strong second half, with junior Andrew Ayeni and senior Alex Vassilakis combining for 33 points and 21 rebounds. The win snapped a two-game losing streak in their 39th meeting.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Today, at Marian University, the Sabre women's basketball team turned over the ball and scored only one field goal in the first eight minutes before Dominican pulled away for a 69-51 win. The 37th matchup ended Marian’s five-game win streak in the series + raised early season concerns.  Envision Greater FDL
