ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Viral posts about exploding trees have raised local interest, but Wisconsin DNR expert Bill McNee said severe cold causes frost cracking in thin-barked trees (like maples and sycamores) rather than full explosions. • Fond du Lac police Lt. Steve Olson retired after a 30-year career this month and shared his journey from a childhood desire to help to roles in DARE, SWAT and school programs (he credited local law enforcement for shaping his commitment to community service).  FDL Reporter
