ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A driver’s wrong turn near Jefferson Park on Lake Winnebago sent a truck into the water on Tuesday morning before Sunk Dive and Ice Service recovered the vehicle with custom rescue equipment (the operation was the 15th recovery of the season).  WBAY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson visited Wisconsin from 1972 to 2024 to support voter registration and labor rights, and he died Feb. 17 at 84 after a lengthy illness, leaving an enduring legacy in communities from Milwaukee to Racine.  FDL Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marian University will host an information session in person (C.D. Smith Boardroom inside the Stayer Center) and online tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. to share details about its upcoming Magical Christmas Markets 2026 tour scheduled for Nov. 27-Dec. 4 that will take travelers to festive European markets.  Envision Greater FDL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin DNR said the upriver lakes sturgeon spearing season ended on Feb. 17 after three days once the cap on adult females was nearly met & only 105 remain before the trigger is reached. Meanwhile, Lake Winnebago had 202 sturgeon harvested Monday.  KFIZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Peanut butter packets produced by Ventura Foods are being recalled in Wisconsin and 39 other states for possible plastic contamination — shoppers should follow retailer instructions and consult a health care professional if needed.  FDL Reporter
  • Dog owners in Oshkosh must check their vaccination certificates for serial number 18665 because Boehringer Ingelheim recalled a batch of rabies vaccines that used sterile water instead of vaccine, and the Animal Hospital of Oshkosh is contacting affected owners to schedule safe revaccinations.  WBAY

  • On Tuesday, 43 adult female sturgeon were harvested out of 1,371 fish on Lake Winnebago, leaving only 62 more needed to trigger the season’s closure, and forecasted rainfall may reduce spearers’ efforts (local fishing clubs advise checking ice conditions).  WBAY
