COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Poor ice conditions forced organizers to cancel the Battle On Bago ice fishing contest at Menominee Park in Oshkosh but the event will still include raffles, a fish fry and entertainment on Friday and Saturday. Ticket holders can mail in for a refund or exchange tickets, with no carryover.  KFIZ
  • Stop N Go in Fond du Lac sold a $128,000 Badger 5 ticket that matched five numbers (2, 4, 6, 12, 24) in the Feb. 18 drawing. It is the largest jackpot win ever at the retailer and marked the third lottery prize over $100,000 this month.  FOX6

  • FVSBank announced Jessica Lehman’s promotion to Assistant Vice President, Credit Analyst Supervisor today (she joined in 2015). She will lead the credit analyst team and support strong credit practices while continuing her work with United Way of Fond du Lac County.  Envision Greater FDL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Regional gas prices declined slightly last week when regular fuel averaged $2.68 per gallon on Monday compared with $2.69 the week before (U.S. EIA).  FDL Reporter

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Feb. 18, few sturgeon spearers went onto the ice as warm weather and thinning ice limited activity — the DNR recorded 34 sturgeon caught, with adult females nearing the trigger limit. Officials advised caution at access points as warm conditions persisted on Thursday.  KFIZ
  • Early Thursday morning, Lake Winnebago’s sturgeon spearers reported no catches as the warm weather — along with rain — softened ice access points and led many to pull their shacks. Officials expect the season to be extended and remind residents to use caution when returning on the ice this weekend.  NBC 26

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Assembly unanimously passed Gail’s Law, requiring insurers to cover extra breast cancer screenings for women with dense breasts in honor of Gail Zeamer from Neenah. Gov. Tony Evers has pledged to sign the bill when it reaches his desk, promising improved access to early detection.  FDL Reporter
  • ThedaCare unveiled community health plans that will roll out pilot projects to improve youth mental health by adjusting cell phone and social media habits, boost nutrition by expanding hydroponic gardens for food pantries, and better connect residents to social resources, with efforts starting in sites like Appleton + New London.  Envision Greater FDL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marian University women’s lacrosse finished eighth in the NACC preseason poll and will open its season Saturday, Feb. 21 at Elmhurst.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Marian University softball finished seventh in the NACC preseason poll with 199 points and will start its season at THE Spring Games from March 1-6.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Due to forecasted weather, Marian baseball moved its season opener to today at 5 p.m. against Wartburg and will still face Hope on Saturday at 2 p.m.  Envision Greater FDL
  • The Dock Spiders announced a 2026 Souvenir 7 ticket package that gives a bobblehead, bucket hat, adjustable hat, jersey relic baseball card + beach towel plus a complimentary Opening Night ticket. Tickets can be bought at Herr-Baker Field’s box office, by phone, or online, with more giveaways coming soon.  KFIZ
