COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local readers in February voted Wendt's on the Lake as having the best fish fry and noted that Caribou Coffee on Johnson St closed, while over 1,000 sturgeon were speared on Lake Winnebago. The school board also discussed new budget cuts to address falling enrollment.  FDL Reporter
  • Arc Fond du Lac is hosting a contest for a vacation for four, with the winner—who can pick a cruise or resort stay valued up to $10,000—drawn at the Fashion for All Fashion Show on March 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center.  KFIZ
  • At Horace Mann High School, family and consumer sciences teacher Stephanie Fox and her students made 36 pans of lasagna from donated ingredients to support local families and will distribute them through the lasagna love program in the coming days.  NBC 26

  • Earl Kehrmeyer, a farm boy from Dodge County, pioneered the international market for U.S. bovine genetics with his journey detailed in the book (From LeRoy to the World: The Life and Legacy of Earl O. CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe, known as Madre Peregrina (a pilgrimage icon), is on display in Fond du Lac as part of an international tour during Lent and will soon move to Brown County; visitors can receive holy cards and white ribbons to write their petitions.  WBAY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Antonio Godfrey Sr. was appointed to the Fond du Lac School District Board on March 2 to fill the vacancy left by Tom Oliver, who resigned due to health issues and later died. He took the oath of office during the meeting, drawing on his prior board experience & commitment to local education.  FDL Reporter
  • Fond du Lac School District board approved $3.5M budget cuts for the 2026-27 year amid falling enrollment, raising elementary class sizes, cutting staff, and delaying tech upgrades — with an operational referendum on April 7 and early consolidation talks in the works at local schools.  FDL Reporter
  • Marian University is offering its Social Work Bridge Courses Program this summer as a flexible online pathway for professionals with a bachelor’s degree to enter social work; the seven-week courses run from May through August with early registration by April 15 (fee waived for timely enrollment).  KFIZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Tony Evers sent a letter to Congress asking them to change a federal hemp law that will take effect in November; the new law would tighten THC limits on products and endanger 3,500 jobs and $700 million in revenue by impacting 470 hemp producers (including farmers and businesses).  WBAY
