ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A four-year-old child was seriously hurt after a head-on crash in Marshfield township when a vehicle driven by a 26-year-old Illinois woman hit a car carrying a couple from Saint Cloud — the child was taken to hospital for severe head injuries and the driver was cited for not using a booster seat. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Insight announced its 40 Under 40 Awards—honoring 40 young professionals chosen from 140 nominations for their contributions in Northeast Wisconsin. The honorees will be featured in the June issue of Insight on Business and in a free photography exhibit at The Art Garage from May 30 to June 1—with a VIP reception on May 29 for special guests. - ➤ The Wisconsin Beef Council announced the Elite Eight finalists in its second annual Best Burger Contest, with two finalists from northeast Wisconsin. A secret panel of judges will visit the restaurants and the contest champion will be revealed on May 1. WBAY
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Emily Bahr, a hospice nurse at SSM Health at Home Hospice Fond du Lac, was named an Extraordinary Nurse on March 13 for her caring work—she received a certificate, a pin and a hand-carved sculpture to honor her efforts. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Uplift Wisconsin, the only peer-run warmline that helped people in distress, will shut down on April 5 because Health and Human Services ended COVID-era grant funds — leaving many with fewer non-crisis support options. Similar programs have also faced cuts in recent days. FDL Reporter
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Marian University men's volleyball won the opening set 31-29 against Concordia but lost the next three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-20. The team is now 7-3 in all-time meetings against Concordia. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Marian University softball returned to action by sweeping Ripon with shutout wins of 3—0 and 11—0 in a doubleheader. The team extended its record to seven consecutive wins against Ripon as key hits in both games helped secure the victories. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Marian University men’s volleyball beat Rockford in straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-12, and 25-19 using a balanced attack and strong blocks. Marian now has a 6-1 record against Rockford and led in kills, digs, and service aces. Envision Greater FDL
