ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fond du Lac Fire Rescue responded just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night to a stove fire on the 400 block of North Peters Avenue, and range hood fire suppressors stopped the blaze from spreading—crews replaced missing smoke detectors before leaving the scene.  WBAY

CRIME NEWS

  • Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney said that Sgt. Andrew Kohlmann was justified in fatally shooting Armando Mendez Berry on Feb. 24 after Berry ignored commands and a nonlethal shot failed to stop him (a handgun was recovered from the scene) (no officer or member of the public was injured).  FOX6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, 14 Fond du Lac teachers received preliminary termination notices and appealed to the school board over a $7.5 million budget deficit. No decision was reached during the meeting—layoffs will take effect next school year while new board members are sworn in on April 28 and Superintendent Jeffrey Fleig resigns on June 30.  WBAY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Horicon Bank donated $15,000 to fifteen local environmental groups as part of a digital statement campaign aimed at reducing paper waste. President Fred C. Schwertfeger said each group received $1,000+ the funds will support conservation efforts and sustainability education.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Horicon Bank said it donated $15,000 to 15 community groups on April 23rd — each received $1,000 to support environmental work prompted by customers choosing digital statements, as stated by bank president Fred Schwertfeger.  KFIZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fond du Lac completed a property revaluation for the 2025 assessment year to update property values to current market conditions and mailed new assessment notices to property owners on April 23. The notices also explain the Open Book and Board of Review process while keeping the overall tax levy unchanged.  Envision Greater FDL

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health donated $100,000 to support The Gratitude Club in building an eight-bed women’s sober living residence called Phoenix Nest adjacent to its clubhouse at a community kickoff. The funds will pay for construction and support services like live-in management and clinical programs to help women on their recovery journey.  Envision Greater FDL
