COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Fond du Lac will celebrate Arbor Day today by joining third graders from Lakeshore Elementary School to plant a tree at Lakeside Park at 1:00 p.m., with Festival Foods donating the tree and seedlings. The city will mark its 37th Tree City Award by meeting criteria set by the Arbor Day Foundation — US Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters.  KFIZ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A stovetop fire at 405 N. Peters Ave was quickly put out on Wednesday evening when fire suppression canisters—installed above the stove—activated, causing only minor damage to the stove and cabinets while crews installed new smoke detectors.  FDL Reporter
  • Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue responded to a stove fire at 405 north Peters Avenue on April 23, where two FireStop Rangehood Fire Suppressors quickly extinguished the blaze that damaged the stove and cabinets while crews later installed two smoke detectors.  KFIZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fond du Lac completed its 2025 property revaluation to update market values and ensure fair property taxes. Notices were mailed on April 23 & include details on the Open Book & Board of Review process with potential tax changes for some owners next year.  KFIZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health donated $100,000 during a community kickoff to support The Gratitude Club’s capital campaign for building an eight-bed women’s sober living residence called Phoenix Nest — adjacent to its clubhouse. The donation will help fund a structured, substance-free home with clinical support to aid women in recovery.  KFIZ
  • Two women died at Taycheedah Correctional Institution in early 2025 after a flu outbreak led to severe pneumonia—Shawnee Reed was taken to a hospital on Feb. 22 with trouble breathing and died soon after, and another inmate who showed similar symptoms also died.  FDL Reporter
  • Fond du Lac's The Gratitude Club announced plans to build an eight-bed women's sober living residence called Phoenix Nest at 295 Ruggles St next to its clubhouse. SSM Health donated $100,000 to the capital campaign and residents will join 12-step programs and clinical services to gain independent living skills.  FDL Reporter
