ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire at a Fond du Lac townhome on Scott Street early May 1 displaced one household and led to the evacuation of nearby residents while paramedics took a child and a woman to a local hospital after fire crews swiftly extinguished the flames.  FDL Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state Department of Justice announced that Wisconsin will receive over $80 million from a ($7.4B) settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family to support addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery programs over 15 years. Attorney General Josh Kaul said opioid-related overdose deaths have dropped by over 40%.  WBAY
  • The City of Fond du Lac has launched Slow Mow May to encourage residents to mow lawns every 2-3 weeks in May (supporting pollinators such as bees and butterflies). Residents must register on the city website by May 31 to be exempt from the grass height ordinance.  Envision Greater FDL

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac provides food bags to food-insecure patients with a $5,000 grant from the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation and Fondy Food Pantry. The program serves about 80 to 110 patients yearly (mostly Medicare and Medicaid recipients) to help secure nutritious meals.  FDL Reporter
  • Health officials report that a warmer winter and wet spring have triggered an early surge in tick activity across Wisconsin including Fond du Lac, raising Lyme disease risks and prompting advice to use insect repellents + check for ticks after outdoor time.  FDL Reporter
