- ➤ The Fond du Lac Fire Rescue Department held their annual brat and burger fry (May 2) at Fire Station 1 (815 South Main) to raise funds for the local American Red Cross. Attendees chose from meals including brats, burgers, and drinks, and the event followed a 2023 fundraiser that raised over $7,600. KFIZ
- ➤ On May 1, judges named the Brazen Beer Cheese Burger at Brazen Head Pub in West Bend the winner of the Wisconsin Beef Council’s Best Burger Contest; the burger—made with a half-pound Angus beef patty, cheddar cheese, bacon, onion rings and Harp beer cheese on a pretzel bun—was selected from an elite eight that included Fond du Lac’s 11:11 Burgers and Beignets. - ➤ The Wisconsin Builders Association announced that public voting is now open for the 2025 Badger Craftsman Awards—voting is allowed once per person per day until May 19 and nominees include projects from both residential and commercial sectors. - ➤ Fond du Lac police are seeking help to identify a man suspected of stealing nearly $3,000 in chainsaws—he is described as a middle-aged man with dark hair, a short beard, and wearing a white baseball cap, white t-shirt, and blue jacket with brown sleeves, and anyone with information should call Detective Lee Mikulec at 920-322-3726. - ➤ A West Bend woman, Jessica Kroening, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined on Friday for her role in a deer-poaching scheme—investigators said well over 100 deer were shot or killed in a 200-square-mile area between Campbellsport, Lomira, Theresa, West Bend and Kewaskum from late spring 2023 to July 2024. - ➤ Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Project G.R.I.L.L. will hold its unveiling event on Friday, May 9 at Festival Foods in Fond du Lac where high school teams will display functional grills and compete for Best in Show and Community Choice Awards. The event will offer academic scholarships and food sales at Festival Brat Barn—funds raised will support the program. KFIZ

- ➤ Aurora Medical Center in Fond du Lac will celebrate its one-year anniversary on May 6 after creating 125 new jobs and expanding vital care services such as IV therapy and a 24/7 emergency department—nearly 90% of patients said they would recommend the hospital. KFIZ
