ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire damaged Generation Lanes in the Town of Eldorado on May 6 while emergency crews contained flames near the gas meter and kitchen area and no injuries occurred. FOX6
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Kelly Odekirk, a seventh-grader at Trinity Lutheran School-Waucousta, won Best in Show at the 12th Teen Photo Contest with a grinning hound photo at the library. The winning entry is on display at Langdon Divers Gallery through June 2 — a reception is set May 14 from 5:30 to 6:30. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ AirVenture in Oshkosh was voted the No. 1 Best Air Show by USA TODAY 10Best after record attendance and exhibitor numbers. The annual air show is set for July 20-26 with NASA returning (after missing last year) to boost its legacy. FDL Reporter
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Marian University is now taking applications for its Fall 2026 Working Families Grant Program, which provides financial help (including tuition and childcare) for eligible single parents earning their first bachelor’s degree. Applicants are encouraged to apply early as spots are limited. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ On April 28, over 400 Fond du Lac first-graders visited Marian University for a READ-4-LIFE event organized by Rotary clubs and community partners. The celebration featured stories, crafts, games and a kazoo parade led by the university president. FDL Reporter
- ➤ UW Oshkosh will rename its College of Nursing, Health Professions and STEM in honor of alumna Mary Novak-Jandrey after her $10 million gift supports interdisciplinary education and workforce development. The change takes effect July 1 and funds endowments for students and innovative programs. Envision Greater FDL

- ➤ A new Motus bird tracking station will soon debut at Mosquito Hill Nature Center to track migrating birds and provide online data viewing (volunteers can help with data collection) as Friends of Mosquito Hill support the project. WBAY

- ➤ Fond du Lac native Claire Krug retired from National Exchange Bank & Trust after a long career since 1975 that included roles as a full-time proof operator and a trust officer, helping customers manage and protect their assets. Envision Greater FDL

- ➤ Ron Schultz (a Marine and environmental safety manager in Harrison) overcame chronic hip pain with right hip replacement surgery by Dr. Michael Ziegele at ThedaCare Orthopedic Care in May and now enjoys his active lifestyle pain-free. - ➤ Sabrina Di Vito struck out 10 batters each game as Marian University softball swept Lawrence 3-1 and 5-2; the team now enters the NACC Tournament after winning six of its last eight games (leading the series 15-7). Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ The Dock Spiders announced upgrades to Herr-Baker Field for their 10th season including a new AstroTurf field + enhanced seating, improved picnic areas, and expanded food and beverage options from local partners. The updates promise a better fan experience for upcoming games. KFIZ
