- ➤ A large African marabou stork was spotted roaming town today, sparking social media buzz and a community effort to retrieve it. Wildlife rescuer Jessica Saunders said residents should report sightings if the bird appears injured or only flies short distances — a sign it may need help. NBC 26
- ➤ The Fond du Lac Area Foundation announced Great Give Back Fond du Lac, a new 24-hour online event to support 30 local nonprofits. Applications open Oct. 1 & close Oct. 31, with selected groups notified in January and the event set for late February 2027. KFIZ

- ➤ A fire damaged part of Generations Lanes in Eldorado on May 6, hitting the kitchen and roof with a bartender and three patrons evacuating safely; the sheriff’s office said the cause remains under investigation. FDL Reporter

- ➤ Gas prices in Wisconsin have dropped slightly after a two-week spike—Fond du Lac recorded $4.40 a gallon on Thursday, May 7. An Indiana refinery issue has been resolved—experts say prices may fall further even though a drop below $3 a gallon remains unlikely. FDL Reporter

- ➤ Fond du Lac County is hosting a free storm spotter training on May 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the City-County Government Center legislative chambers (160 S. Macy St.) led by a National Weather Service meteorologist who will review severe weather safety and reporting methods. FDL Reporter
- ➤ Over 400 first graders gathered at Marian University on April 28 for READ-4-LIFE, a celebration of reading organized by local Rotary clubs and the school district. The event featured storytelling, games, and a kazoo parade led by the university president (highlighting community support for literacy). KFIZ
- ➤ Marian University is accepting applications for its Working Families Grant that helps single parents earn a bachelor's degree by providing tuition, childcare, and living-expense support. Applications are open now for the fall cohort in Fond du Lac (space is limited). FDL Reporter
