  • Wisconsin Bike Fed will host Wisconsin Bike Week from May 31 to June 7 across the state; the event offers rides, advocacy training, educational programs and family-friendly activities to promote cycling and community health (with special donor incentives available).  KFIZ
  • Holy Family will offer free bagged lunches through its Summer Bites program on Tuesdays from June 9 to Aug. 18 at 11 sites across Fond du Lac — visitors can also use the Warming Shelter at 73 E. First St. for showers and laundry. Donors and volunteers support the program.  FDL Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wisconsin high school students affected by a spring ACT scoring error will receive updated scores by end of day May 22 — the testing company has corrected the mistake and assures that scores will not decrease.  WBAY
  • After a kiln room fire last week, Woodworth Middle School moved its classes to Marian University for the rest of the school year. The school board approved a waiver request to cover the missed instructional day – a decision that shows a swift local response.  FDL Reporter
  • Fond du Lac Public Library launches its Summer Reading event (Unearth a Story) on Monday, Jun. 1 with activities and prizes for all ages; participants can log their reading online for instant rewards and a chance at a grand prize.  KFIZ
  • Six local high school seniors received scholarships from SSM Health volunteers to support their healthcare career plans. Three awards came from Fond du Lac volunteers, one came from SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital volunteers, and two supported technical school pathways.  KFIZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After a severe windstorm on Sunday, Wildlife of Wisconsin recovered eaglets from a collapsed bald eagle nest in Two Rivers. One eaglet died while a volunteer team built a new platform nest for the survivors (one with a pelvic fracture) and an adult eagle was seen nearby, offering hope for recovery.  WBAY

  • SSM Health announced that DeAnn Thurmer retires on July 1 after 40 years of service as Nicole Gill takes over at Ripon Community and Waupun Memorial Hospitals. A 75th-anniversary open house is set for Sunday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with refreshments and a donor wall unveiling.  Envision Greater FDL
  • A local nonprofit plans to build Fond du Lac’s first women’s sober living home to offer a safe, supportive space for recovery. The project is in early planning — further details will be shared once final approvals are received.  NBC 26
  • Amid a national discussion on rideshare use during emergencies, local EMS leaders explained today that our area has seen no significant increase, and they urge residents to call 911 (Gold Cross Ambulance Service warns that delaying care may risk lives).  WBAY

  • Assistant NCAA men’s hockey coach Alex Mandolidis of Marian University served as an aide for Team Greece during the Challenger Series opening leg — the team posted two wins in three games and tied for first. The second leg will be held in Montreal from July 8-12.  Envision Greater FDL
