COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Town of Byron veterans will be honored at the annual Memorial Day tribute on Monday, May 26, at the Byron Town Hall and Veterans Memorial; doors will open from 8 am to 11 am for military and historical exhibits and the outdoor program will begin at 9:30 am. American Legion Post +347 and VFW Post +8092 will present a color guard and roll call for the 112 veterans buried at local cemeteries. KFIZ
- ➤ Leadership Fond du Lac County members in the 2024—2025 program worked on community projects to help local groups. They added an e-bike at the library, fixed a space for veterans, set outdoor tables at a community center, put up 'Path2Play' signs between the Children’s Museum and Lakeside Park, and placed picnic tables at the soccer complex—helping local groups with more than $20,000 in aid while the program has given over $700,000 over the years. - ➤ AAA projects record-breaking traffic for Memorial Day weekend as three-quarters of a million Wisconsin drivers are expected to travel by car on routes affected by construction on I-41 and Highway 441. - ➤ Fond du Lac Schools superintendent Jeff Fleig retired early since his last day was Tuesday to pursue a new professional opportunity—he had planned to retire on June 30. NBC 26
- ➤ Dr. Fleig retired early on May 20 to pursue a professional opportunity — the district has named Chief Academic Officer Matt Steinbarth as the new superintendent who will begin on July 1. WBAY

- ➤ On May 22, the City of Fond du Lac released its annual Drinking Water Quality Report — the report shows that water from 17 deep wells tested in four treatment plants meets state and federal standards while advising vulnerable residents to consult their healthcare providers about the small amounts of contaminants found. - ➤ Data released on May 22 showed that Wisconsin recorded the highest number of Lyme disease cases in state history and that cases have tripled over the past 15 years—experts noted that deer ticks have spread to every county.
