COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Friday kicked off Memorial Day weekend as AAA projected record travel — more than 45 million people are expected nationwide while local airports and highways stay busy. Travelers should have a Real ID or passport ready to avoid delays and plan ahead for extra screenings and construction along I-41 and Highway 441.  WBAY
  • The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders, Silica For Your Home, and the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac are partnering for the third season of a program that donates $50 for every stolen base at home to support local youth. The team will open the home season on Tuesday, May 27 against the Madison Mallards and will hold a Tim Elko bobblehead giveaway for the first 500 fans on Sunday, July 27 — boosting community support for youth programs.  KFIZ
  • The City of Fond du Lac announced that the Memorial Day Parade this Monday, May 26, will take place on Macy Street instead of Main Street due to ongoing construction—staging begins at the Fives parking lot from 9 to 10 a.m. and the parade starts at 10 a.m., ending at Veterans Park with a ceremony at 11:30 a.m.  KFIZ

  • The Fond du Lac Public Library will launch its new local history book Life by the Lake: Stories of Fond du Lac on May 29 in the McLane Room, and free copies will be available for cardholders starting May 30 — the book updates Cindy Barden’s earlier work using new research from local historians.  FDL Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health Volunteer Services awarded seven scholarships to high school seniors who plan health care careers—five from Fond du Lac and two from Waupun Memorial Hospital Volunteers—and the awards, which range from $1,000 to $2,000, were given on May 23.  KFIZ
