COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Fond du Lac and Burke Playground Equipment worked together in spring 2024 to build an inclusive playground at Buttermilk Creek Park on 753 S Park Avenue—designed for children ages 2 to 15 with wheelchair access and a rubberized surface for families attending park concerts. Russell Park added a new baseball-themed playground in 2024—with final landscaping set for 2025 and a new sidewalk planned to connect Ashland Avenue for easier access.  Envision Greater FDL

CRIME NEWS

  • Two defendants were sentenced in connection with a North Fond du Lac shooting that occurred in September 2023 — Jaysen Fix, 21, received nine years of initial confinement and nine years of extended supervision while Noah Metcalf, 17, was sentenced to six years of initial confinement and six years of extended supervision.  FDL Reporter

CULTURE NEWS

  • SSM Health Treffert Center will host Archipelago 2025—a celebration of exceptional minds featuring live performances, art showcases, and networking opportunities—on July 11 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Fond du Lac County Campus located at 400 University Drive, offering savants a chance to connect and share their talents.  Envision Greater FDL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WHEDA Foundation announced it will award $2M in grants for housing improvements—covering rehabilitation, accessibility upgrades, and new construction—as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. Eligible nonprofits, local governments, and Tribal authorities must submit their applications by 11:59 p.m. July 31 to receive awards of up to $50,000 for emergency or permanent housing.  Envision Greater FDL

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital achieved a zero CLABSI rate in a CMS study and is among 339 hospitals with the lowest infection rates. The hospital followed strict evidence-based practices (from July 2023 to June 2024) to care for central lines and prevent infections.  Envision Greater FDL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dock Spiders won 6—2 against the Rockers in Green Bay last night as Matt Hansen drove in two runs including a key home run while the team kept errors low at one against the Rockers’ seven—Karter Muck pitched six strong innings and the team will build on this victory during a three‐game road trip in Lakeshore with the first game scheduled at 6:35 p.m. CT.  Envision Greater FDL
  • The Dock Spiders rallied from a five-run deficit to beat the Chinooks 7-6 on the road in Lakeshore — Jarren Sanderson led the team with key hits and the win marked its third straight victory over the Chinooks. They will play game two in Mequon as they try to sweep the series.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Former Fond du Lac Dock Spiders infielder Ryan Ritter made his Major League debut for the Colorado Rockies on June 6 at Coors Field in Denver—he recorded his first hit, a triple, in a game against the New York Mets while becoming the eighth Dock Spiders alum to reach the majors.  Envision Greater FDL
  • The 2025 Mercury National Walleye Tournament ended on June 9 when winning team Wayne Gregor — from Rosendale — and Dale Boeck from Oshkosh caught five walleye each day to total 28 pounds 13 ounces and beat the runner-up by 1 1/4 pounds. Out of 278 teams, 1213 walleye weighing 2475 pounds were caught and 96% were released back into Lake Winnebago alive.  KFIZ
