  • Producers are working on a documentary about the legacy of the famed Pumpkin Lady and the annual KFIZ Halloween Party and said on July 9 that they need donors to help finish production—Jean Herbold and Shawn Kiser provided updates on KFIZ Today.  KFIZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Workforce Development awarded nearly $2.3 million in Wisconsin Fast Forward grants to 18 employers across the state to train over 1,000 workers in sectors including construction, customer service, healthcare, manufacturing and transportation—supporting both unemployed and current workers to advance their skills and earn higher wages.  WBAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Crystal Wormet, RN from SSM Health at Home – Hospice was named a DAISY Award winner on July 9 after a patient’s family nominated her for her compassionate care. She received a certificate, a pin, and a sculpture to honor her exceptional work.  KFIZ
  • A reputable center for health services research identified Holy Family Memorial, MCHS Oakridge, and Aspirus Stanley Hospital as at-risk for closing because they have high Medicaid payer mixes or three years of negative margins—U.S. senators warned that the law signed on July 4 will cut Medicaid funding and leave these rural hospitals unpaid for required services.  FDL Reporter

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data for April showed that the median home sale price in Fond du Lac County rose 3% to $226,500 from $220,000 in March, with single-family homes selling for $225,000 while condos and townhomes fell 6.5% to $231,500. Recorded home sales dropped 9.7% to 102 transactions, with total residential sales reaching $25.6 million for the month.  FDL Reporter

  • The Milwaukee Brewers called up Anthony Siegler, making him the second Navajo to play in the major leagues and one of only two active Indigenous players. Born on a Navajo reservation, he stays proud of his roots—local tribes have celebrated his call-up as a historic moment.  FDL Reporter
