COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Final preparations are underway at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds for a fair running from July 16 to 20—rides, food booths, animal exhibits and grandstand shows are planned. Following tradition, a Professional Bull Riding and Barrel Racing show with a fireworks display will take place this evening at the grandstand.  KFIZ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Officials in Fond du Lac County responded to a barn fire on Saturday night when a passerby called 911 about a controlled fire at W1502 Old Bridge Road (between Campbellsport and Kewaskum) and 15 minutes later the property owner called after the fire became out of control and threatened nearby structures; firefighters from multiple departments arrived quickly and no other buildings were damaged.  KFIZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State budget cuts force the Veterans Housing and Recovery Program to close its homeless veteran facilities in Chippewa Falls and Green Bay by September 30—starting Monday, applications for these sites will stop being reviewed while some Green Bay residents are moving to the Union Grove facility that will remain open.  WBAY
  • Today, the Wisconsin State Patrol’s Air Support Unit will fly above Highway 26 in Fond du Lac County (also patrolling Trempeleau and Eau Claire counties) to spot speeding and aggressive driving. Later this week, troopers in a Truck will move through five cities including Green Bay on Thursday and Wausau on Friday to check for phone use, seat belt use, and unsafe lane changes.  WBAY
  • Fond du Lac County Fair will use a new mobile command center—built by LDV Inc.—to replace its 36-year-old command post vehicle that manages emergencies during the fair. The event will also feature a text alert system that lets fairgoers receive emergency notifications until it expires Monday, July 21.  WBAY
  • Main Street in Fond du Lac from Court Street to Western Avenue is closed this week for a new water main installation+ crews are removing concrete slabs and ramps. Businesses remain open and parking is available on side streets and city lots while the Main Street Rehabilitation project is set to finish the first week of September.  KFIZ

  • The Dock Spiders lost 10-4 to the Mallards after giving up 11 hits while key players struggled to keep pace in a game marked by a six-run early run— the team will play Green Bay on Friday, July 18 at Herr-Baker Field with special promotions planned.  Envision Greater FDL
