COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital donated $5,000 to the Living Hope Food Pantry (located at 103 Spring Street in Fox Lake) to help replace a cargo van used in delivering food and essentials to local families. In 2024, the pantry served 4,156 families with support from volunteers and local donations.  Envision Greater FDL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fatal head-on crash between a tanker truck and a passenger vehicle closed Highway 26 in southern Fond du Lac County on July 17 at about 6:50 a.m.—emergency crews from the Waupun Fire Department, Lifestar Ambulance, sheriff’s deputies and state patrol worked the scene and shut the road between Highway 151 and County Highway TC for several hours.  KFIZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Horicon Bank announced today that it appointed Scott De Young to its Board of Directors—bringing over three decades of financial and operational expertise along with a strong record of community service. De Young, a local native with experience as a CFO and vice president, said he is honored to help guide the bank’s ongoing growth.  Envision Greater FDL

CRIME NEWS

  • A 59-year-old Green Bay man was arrested in Fond du Lac early July 17 after a nearly 3-mile police chase—officers deployed a stun gun when he ignored commands—and he now faces charges of felony fleeing and operating while impaired.  FDL Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WiscoFAST and several e-cigarette distributors filed a federal lawsuit against the Wisconsin Department of Revenue after the statewide ban on most vaping products took effect on July 1, alleging that the fines—up to $1,000 per unauthorized device—violate the Supremacy Clause and usurp FDA authority. The suit seeks a preliminary injunction to halt the fines, and companies worry the rule could lead to store closures while the department has not responded.  WBAY
  • Homeless service providers in rural Wisconsin are struggling as state funds remain flat and federal cuts reduce support for key programs—Gov. Tony Evers’ $24 million proposal was cut, leaving local groups to rely on limited resources amid rising need. Many say that new work requirements and shrinking federal funding threaten to deepen the challenges for both homeless individuals and the agencies that serve them.  FDL Reporter

  • ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton earned reaccreditation as a Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation—recognized by the American College of Cardiology—and its cath lab received the same honor, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to high-quality cardiac care.
