CRIME NEWS

  • A driver pulled over for suspected drunk driving on July 21 at 12:15 a.m. near Pioneer Road — Winnebago Street fought officers after a breathalyzer read .222 with his license already revoked and a prior conviction, and officers quickly called backup to subdue him while an ambulance treated his scraped elbow.  KFIZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Many Wisconsin parents already finished much of their back-to-school shopping during the summer as tariff worries pushed them to switch brands and stores to keep spending flat—Target will hold 2024 prices on key supplies while other stores warn that clothing and shoes may cost more. Surveys show that although families plan to spend about the same as last year, they are turning to discount options to manage costs.  FDL Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Oct. 1, Wisconsin will end the state sales tax on home energy bills by extending the previous seasonal exemption to all year, which is expected to save residents about $5 each month. The change is set to save an estimated $178 million over the next two years.  WBAY
