GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Wisconsin expanded its tax code to let residents 67 and older subtract up to $24,000 of retirement income for singles or $48,000 for couples, reducing or eliminating state income taxes for many seniors. Tax experts warn the change may shift more tax costs to younger workers—potentially leading to higher taxes for future taxpayers—adding uncertainty to state revenue.  FDL Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • UW Extension sent layoff notices to 92 staff members after Congress cut funding for SNAP-Ed, a nutrition program that teaches low-income people to eat healthier. UW Extension is exploring alternative funding options as the cuts may weaken nutrition education services.  FDL Reporter
