BUSINESS NEWS

  • JC Penney in Fox River Mall may change when the company sells 119 stores to Onyx Partners, which will take effect on September 8 — the new owner will keep them running as JC Penney while the retailer restructures its operations. Nine Wisconsin stores will remain under the JC Penney name after the sale.  KFIZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital is donating 39 gently used patient beds to Moraine Park Technical College and Marian University to boost nursing student training. Moraine Park will reallocate referendum funds for its nursing skills lab renovation (with construction set to start this fall) while Marian University will use the beds in its simulation labs.  Envision Greater FDL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin DNR extended the statewide air quality alert until noon today because smoke from a Canadian wildfire has led to poor air quality for 22 days this year. Milwaukee and several counties recorded scores up to 158—prompting the National Weather Service to advise children, older adults and those with asthma to stay indoors.  FDL Reporter

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders beat the Wausau Woodchucks 3—2 on Sunday at Herr-Baker Field, with starter Jaden Morris pitching five innings and James Hankerson Jr scoring the go-ahead run. Reliever Dylan Immel added four strong innings to help secure the win.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Joe Gerarden has been named as an assistant coach for the Marian University women’s ice hockey program and will support student-athletes under head coach Matt Walton. He brings over a decade of local coaching experience from his roles with youth hockey and the Bay Area Ice Bears and helped secure a state championship in 2023.  Envision Greater FDL
