COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jon Mark Bolthouse, who led the Fond du Lac Public Library for 13 years, will leave his role to become director at the North Suburban Library District near Rockford and his last day is Sunday, Aug. 24 (a community celebration is planned). The library board will soon start the search for his replacement (details to follow).  Envision Greater FDL
  • Tuesday’s National Night Out brought neighbors together across Northeast Wisconsin to build trust with local police. Fond du Lac police hosted an event from 4 to 7 p.m. at the county fairgrounds park — 160 S. Macy St. — where residents met officers and learned crime prevention tips.  WBAY

CRIME NEWS

  • Christopher Hoerth, a Fond du Lac man, was sentenced on Tuesday to 6 years of initial confinement and 6 years of extended supervision after a five-day jury trial convicted him of reckless homicide and bail jumping for a fentanyl death in 2020—he also pleaded no contest to drug possession charges.  WBAY
  • A young Menasha man, Caiden Stachowicz, 19, allegedly set a local congressman’s office on fire after learning of a possible TikTok ban and withdrew his insanity plea at a court status conference on Monday—he now faces charges for arson, attempted burglary, and criminal damage to property.  NBC 26

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fond du Lac School District has partnered with Marian University — a new program — to let eligible high school students earn both high school and college credits during regular class hours. The program focuses on math and science courses — scheduled from 8 to 8:50 a.m. — with transcripts recorded on both school and college records.  FDL Reporter
