  • Fond du Lac residents say artificial intelligence is now used at work, in schools and at home as businesses automate tasks and teachers introduce tools for safe use—some remain unsure if AI can replace human thinking. Local experts and everyday users are watching these changes closely as the community learns to balance benefits and risks.  FDL Reporter
  • Jon Mark Bolthouse, who has led the Fond du Lac Public Library for 13 years, is leaving his job with his last day on August 24, and a celebration will be planned. The library board said his work, which improved digital resources & made the library more energy efficient, helped many people in the community.  KFIZ
  • The Fond du Lac Public Library will host its Multicultural Festival on August 19 from 2 to 4 p.m., where community booths will offer interactive games, food samples, and cultural facts as visitors use a passport to join a prize drawing. Special guest Mayte Peña will give her talk at 3 p.m. in the McLane Room (the event helps showcase diverse cultures).  KFIZ

CRIME NEWS

  • Police in Fond du Lac county helped the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office capture three people after a vehicle did not stop for a deputy on I-41 last night—two were found walking and a fleeing woman was tracked using her iPhone while searches uncovered about 15 grams of cocaine.  KFIZ
  • A North Fond du Lac man, Christopher Hoerth, was sentenced yesterday to six years in prison and six years of extended supervision for the drug-related death of his sister on May 7, 2020 in the Village of North Fond du Lac—cell phone records and a witness statement indicated texts regarding a drug transaction while previous convictions were noted by prosecutors.  KFIZ
  • Fond du Lac County deputies ended a pursuit just before 9 p.m. Tuesday when they found a car with cocaine, crack, mushrooms, THC vape pens, and ammo on Lincoln Road—authorities now ask residents to report any sightings of a pink backpack suspected to hold a handgun and additional drug evidence.  WBAY

  • Area school districts are joining Direct Admit Wisconsin to give qualified high school students automatic admission to 10 UW schools—Appleton Area and Howard-Suamico are among the 467 schools now in the program's second year, which aims to reduce application stress.  WBAY
