CULTURE NEWS

  • Wade House Historic Site in Greenbush will host Baron's Gelato Days on Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. where visitors can taste 14 gelato flavors including a special edition flavor; it will also host its 65th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair on Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with over 45 artists showcasing crafts plus an entry fee that supports its educational and historic programs.  FDL Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Most Fond du Lac public schools will start classes after Labor Day on Sept. 2 – North Fond du Lac schools begin on Aug. 27 and Waupun Area opens on Aug. 25 for grades 7–12 and on Aug. 27 for grades K–6. Private high schools will open in August – Winnebago Lutheran Academy starts on Aug. 17 while St. Mary’s Springs Academy and local colleges open on Aug. 25.  FDL Reporter

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Four southeast Wisconsin counties experienced a historic weekend rainfall that led to flooding, stranded vehicles and over 600 emergency calls. Milwaukee County saw a station record 14 1/2 inches possibly breaking a 24-hour record+Fond du Lac County recorded 1.7 inches with Campbellsport a bit over 2 inches.  KFIZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Monday, health officials announced that a harmful algae bloom was detected on the North Shore of Lake Winnebago at Menasha Municipal Beach. They urged residents to avoid swimming and to keep pets from drinking the water—recommending a prompt shower for anyone exposed.  WBAY
