COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SSM Health gave $8,050 to The Arc Fond du Lac—funding a new literacy workbook series and a three-year AccessiBe subscription to improve its website for people with disabilities—to help serve over 250 local families and individuals.  Envision Greater FDL
  • The 18th annual Fondue Fest will return downtown on Saturday, September 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the event will include live music, local food, artisan vendors, and fun activities for all ages, with cheese and chocolate fondue served at 10 a.m. and a new brew debuting at noon.  Envision Greater FDL
  • SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital and the Waupun Fire Department are working together to improve community safety—joint training and real-time coordination help both teams respond to emergencies effectively. The hospital recently celebrated the partnership by treating the fire department team to pizza.  Envision Greater FDL

CULTURE NEWS

  • On August 12, the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts named Paul Krikau, Ph.D.—a leader with more than 20 years of experience and former Dean of Students at Marian University in Fond du Lac—as its new Executive Director, tasked with growing community arts programs. He will use his background in arts and education to strengthen the center's local engagement.  KFIZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Chemical Safety Board said Didion Milling has not adopted any of nine safety recommendations made in a December letter after a May 2017 explosion that killed five workers and injured 14, and the company did not respond to repeated outreach.  WBAY
  • The City of Fond du Lac announced its household hazardous waste drop-off on September 11 at the Municipal Service Center — 530 Doty Street. From 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, residents must stay in their vehicles as staff checks photo ID and accepts only items in trunks, and those with questions should call 920-322-3544.  KFIZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • ThedaCare hospitals earned national awards for stroke care from the American Heart Association, with Neenah receiving a gold honor roll and Appleton earning a silver honor roll under the Get With The Guidelines program. Other rural hospitals also earned awards—showing their strong commitment to treating stroke patients and those with diabetes.  Envision Greater FDL
  • At SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital, physical therapist Morgan Zink was named the new recipient of the BEE Award—an honor recognizing her excellent teamwork, clear communication and commitment to patient care, as noted by a thankful patient.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Kay Heus, LPN at Fond du Lac Regional Clinic Family Medicine received a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for her skilled and compassionate care after a patient nomination. She was honored in a brief ceremony by clinic leaders—demonstrating her dedication to providing quality care.  Envision Greater FDL
