CRIME NEWS

  • Two 18-year-old Fond du Lac residents were arrested Aug. 12 on suspicion of thefts from vehicles after a community call—one was caught during a traffic stop while the other was found near Rosenow Elementary School.  FDL Reporter
  • A 34-year-old Fond du Lac woman was arrested after police found no evidence of an armed robbery near N. Macy and W. Rees and she admitted lying about being held at knifepoint—she now faces a charge of Resisting/Obstructing an Officer.  WBAY
  • Fond du Lac police arrested a 34-year-old woman after she falsely reported that a stranger with a knife robbed her near a bus stop while she was carrying business funds to a bank—surveillance footage showed no one at about 9:24 a.m. and she admitted to fabricating the story.  NBC 26
  • A 34-year-old Fond du Lac woman faked an armed robbery report on August 13 at about 9:24 a.m. near N. Macy Street and W. Rees Street—police reviewed surveillance that revealed no robbery and she now faces charges for resisting/obstructing an officer.  KFIZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said recent storms damaged many state parks, trails, recreation areas and wildlife areas, and crews are assessing the damage—users are advised to avoid closed sections until repairs are completed.  KFIZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin DNR reports that UTV registrations increased sixfold since 2014 and data shows most crashes happen on public highways with many riders not wearing helmets. Over Labor Day weekend, the department will run its Think Smart Before You Start campaign and urge riders to take safety courses—especially those born after January 1.  WBAY
  • The Wisconsin DMV published a new webpage on August 13th to help consumers spot scams and protect their personal information, warning that fake emails and texts may request urgent payment. The page shows clear red flags—such as suspicious URLs and payment demands—and offers steps like signing up for alerts and checking sender details.  KFIZ
