COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Friends of the Kettle Moraine will host a family event called Hike, Dine, Drum on Sept. 13 at the Zillmer Trail area in Campbellsport — participants can choose a 3-mile or 1.8-mile hike and will enjoy a fall harvest dinner costing $15 per person with reservations due Sept. 6. The event will also feature a campfire concert with a drumming circle and attendees are advised to bring blankets and lawn chairs for the outdoor show.  FDL Reporter
  • Fond du Lac Area High School bowling club will host two fundraisers in the next 10 days. The first is a meat raffle at Loaded Dice bar on north Main Street on Saturday, August 30 at 2 p.m.—12 meat items will be raffled and you must be present to win, while the second is a 9-pin no tap bowling tournament at Parkway Lanes on north Park Avenue on Saturday, September 6 at 11:30 a.m. with a $45 entry fee and additional prizes from local sponsors.  KFIZ

CRIME NEWS

  • An 82-year-old man from Fond du Lac and a 25-year-old man from Brandon were charged with illegally dumping mercury-containing fluorescent bulbs into a stream on private property in Fond du Lac County—authorities said the younger man used heavy equipment to push and break the bulbs while additional trailers held about 30,000 more.  FDL Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fond du Lac School District will welcome many new staff when school starts on Sept. 2, including new superintendent Matt Steinbarth, Chief Academic Officer Nate Groves, special education teachers, and classroom educators for various grades. The district has also hired support staff and subject specialists to help students learn from day one—these changes prepare the school for a fresh start this year.  FDL Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fond du Lac will host a ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. on Main Street to celebrate its re-opening after a rehabilitation project that resurfaced the road and updated curbs, gutters, and utility lines — the work was completed ahead of schedule.  KFIZ
  • After Judge Jerry Jaye resigned, a special election will be held to fill the Lakeside Municipal Court vacancy — the judge will serve until April 30 — with the election set for Tuesday, November 4 and a primary on Tuesday, October 7 if needed. Candidates who live in the court’s municipalities began circulating nomination papers on August 26 and must file complete paperwork by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9 with Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg.  KFIZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders and Marian University are installing state-of-the-art artificial turf at Herr-Baker Field, which will be finished in spring 2026 — a project that also upgrades other athletic facilities and extends their partnership through 2050. Local sports fans can expect more exciting events as these improvements progress.  WBAY
