COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SSM Health is giving $7,500 to Sigma of Fond du Lac to support its homeless students program that provides care packages and birthday gift cards to students at local high schools. The donation follows a rise in students served—from 30 to 54 during the 2024 holidays—and the program will continue to offer essential support to vulnerable community members.  Envision Greater FDL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive buckthorn from Kettle Moraine State Forest during fall workdays organized by Friends of the Kettle Moraine. The first sessions will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 13 and Sept. 20 at Haskell Noyes State Natural Area — additional workdays are scheduled for Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 by Mauthe Lake.  FDL Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • Updated COVID-19 vaccines are now available without a prescription at CVS and Walgreens—people aged 65 or with certain health conditions can get the shot by checking a box online. A vote on new eligibility guidelines will take place Sept. 18-19 and could affect how insurers cover the vaccine.  FDL Reporter
  • Agnesian HealthCare Foundation held its 37th annual Charity Open on September 9 to support local hospice and cancer care, raising over $525,000 from sponsors and attendees. The event, presented by the Michels Corporation, has raised more than $8.1 million since 1989 and shared stories of hope that highlighted its community impact.  KFIZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Zumper data shows Fond du Lac apartment rents fell 9% from last year's median as the typical listing was $999 in August—one-bedroom units dropped 11% and two-bedroom units dropped 17%—while local rents stay below state and national medians.  FDL Reporter

  • Deer hunters received advice from a DNR deer specialist ahead of the bow and crossbow season that starts Saturday — the season is set to offer a target-rich environment in the woods.  WBAY
