CULTURE NEWS

  • The Fond du Lac Public Library helps residents try tabletop role-playing games by lending free guidebooks and game kits and offering events. Adults can join the How to be a Dungeon Master workshop on Saturday, Sept 27—designed as a free half-day session—while teens participate in Ready, Set, Roleplay on Thursday, Oct 2.  Envision Greater FDL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Patti Habeck, who led Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin for 14 years, has been named President and CEO of New North Inc. effective Dec. 1—she replaces Barb LaMue, who retired in May.  Envision Greater FDL

  • Marian University named Tracy Qualmann as its new Assistant Vice President for Marketing, and she will lead marketing and branding efforts—drawing on over 20 years of experience to strengthen community ties.  Envision Greater FDL

FINANCE NEWS

  • A lottery player in Fond du Lac won $350,000 when Philly's on 4th sold the winning SuperCash! ticket for the Sept. 15 drawing—the ticket's winning numbers are 16, 24, 27, 30, 37, and 39— and the prize must be claimed within 180 days.  FDL Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Amtrak’s I-41 Thruway bus service that connects Green Bay and Milwaukee will end operations on Oct. 1+state officials said the state could not renew its contract due to funding gaps in the biennial budget.  FDL Reporter
  • The City of Fond du Lac will begin its annual leaf collection on Monday October 13 with crews starting in the northeast and moving clockwise through the city — they will complete at least three sweeps this fall, weather permitting. Residents can drop off leaves at the yard waste site or mulch them with a lawnmower while following the city’s curbside guidelines.  KFIZ
  • A recent survey showed that few readers supported Wisconsin's vape law restrictions that went into effect on September 1, with some saying the rules help protect kids while others worried the changes could force ex-smokers back to cigarettes. Local store owners removed popular devices from their shelves, and some warn the tougher rules may drive customers to bordering states—raising concerns over business losses.  FDL Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital gave $6,000 to the Green Lake County Health Department to support school youth mental health programs and a July event that offered a resource fair and free sports physicals for kids—county officials said the funds helped reach more than 19,000 local residents.   • Wisconsin health officials issued a standing medical order on September 16 that lets local pharmacies provide updated COVID-19 vaccines without a prescription to anyone 6 months and older — the change follows Gov. Tony Evers’ executive order that removed the earlier restrictions for those without underlying conditions.  FDL Reporter
  • SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic welcomed board-certified pediatrician Dr. Elizabeth Dodd—who focuses on ADHD and child wellness—and she is now accepting new patients at 420 E. Division St. She provides preventive care for both healthy children and those who need treatment for illness.  FDL Reporter

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior Jikke Biemans of Marian field hockey was named CFHC Offensive Player of the Week after she scored a hat trick to lead her team to a 5-1 win over Wittenberg (Rijen, Netherlands) and a 4-0 record this season; Marian will travel to New York for games starting at noon on Sept. 20.  Envision Greater FDL
