COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marsh Haven will host Hops at Marsh Haven on October 10, where visitors can taste brews from local breweries—Hoya Hop House Brewing, Knuth Brewing Company, Shattered Glass Brewery, and Fifth Ward Brewing Company—and explore trails lined with vendors and lanterns while receiving a commemorative 8oz mason jar and checking out interactive displays at the Vine/Griffith Building along with smoked BBQ from Eaton BBQ. Tickets cost $40 in advance or $45 at the door and are limited to 200.  Envision Greater FDL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • St. Louis-based Schnucks Group bought 100% of Festival Foods' parent company shares that run 51 Wisconsin stores (42 Festival Foods, nine Hometown Grocers) and will keep the current store names. Todd Schnuck will become chairman and CEO of the new 1939 Group, with closing expected in October after customary review.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon announced that it filed a registration statement for a planned IPO of common stock to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker symbol ALH. Officials said that the share count and price range have not yet been set and that the offering will depend on market conditions — several banks are involved as managers.  Envision Greater FDL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Small Business Administration announced low interest disaster loans for Wisconsin businesses, private nonprofits and residents affected by the August storms and flooding. Applicants in Fond Du Lac may only apply for economic injury loans — while those in several other counties can also seek property damage loans, and a Business Recovery Center in Milwaukee County will help starting Sept. 17.  Envision Greater FDL

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab programs were certified by AACVPR for meeting high standards—this three-year award shows that the hospital uses exercise, education and support to help patients improve their health.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Dr. Abdulmohsin Ahmadjee of ThedaCare Cardiovascular Care said the WATCHMAN implant offers an alternative to blood thinners for atrial fibrillation patients at risk of stroke (the device is inserted using a minimally invasive catheter procedure from the leg).  Envision Greater FDL
  • SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic today welcomed family medicine with obstetrics physician Holly Haberman, MD to its clinic at 608 W. Brown Street in Waupun—she now accepts new patients and offers general, preventive, and obstetrical care including prenatal and postpartum services.  Envision Greater FDL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Junior Yinan Lu of Marian University has been named NACC Player of the Week after earning medalist honors at the Marian Invite and Benedictine Fall Invite and finishing third at the Fighting Scot Invitational with an average of 76.8 strokes over five rounds — marking her fifth award of the honor. She will travel with her team to the Midwest Region Classic on Sept. 19–20.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Marian University women’s volleyball has opened registration for a High School Prospect Camp scheduled for Saturday, October 18. High school student-athletes will check in at 7:30 a.m.—camp starts at 8 a.m., with a match against Benedictine at noon and a campus tour afterward, and the $40 fee covers camp, lunch, game admission and a t-shirt.  Envision Greater FDL
