ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fall officially started yesterday when the sun crossed the equator at 1:19 p.m. and made day a bit longer than night—local maps show Fond du Lac County currently has 20-25% fall color with peak colors expected by the second week of October.  KFIZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • ThedaCare urges children and adults over 50 to get the one-time pneumonia vaccine to reduce the risk of serious infections as the CDC updated its guidelines last October. People planning for a flu shot may get the pneumonia shot at the same time—this helps lower the chances of pneumonia, meningitis, and bloodstream infections.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Fond du Lac residents are invited by the Alzheimer’s Association to join the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 4 at Fond du Lac High School—801 Campus Drive—beginning at 8:30 a.m. with an opening ceremony at 9:40 a.m. and a walk at 10:00 a.m. The event will include a Promise Garden Ceremony that supports care, research and community unity.  KFIZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marian University women’s volleyball had a fast start with a 12—5 lead but lost to Ripon by scores of 21—25, 25—23, 25—12, 25—23.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Sabre women’s golf finished with a team score of 341 and tied for 19th at a shortened Midwest Region Fall Classic at Marian University as they prepared for the NACC Championship—Yinan Lu led with an 80 while Katelyn Bucciarelli and Allison Cink scored 85 and 86. The University of Northwestern won the event with an even-par 72 round.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Marian men’s soccer lost 2—1 to Dominican after senior Vince Sanchez scored at 50:29 and Dominican responded with a penalty kick and a late goal by Jonathan Almaguer. The Sabres recorded fewer shot attempts and corner kicks while finishing the game with 21 fouls in their third consecutive loss against Dominican.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Marian University field hockey won a 2 to 1 overtime game at Nazareth today, with senior Jikke Biemans scoring with 3:42 left in the third quarter and freshman Charlotte Touw providing the winning goal in second overtime—The Golden Flyers held a 19 to 7 shot advantage and edged Nazareth on penalty corners to extend their best start in program history.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Marian University men's golf finished with a team score of 310 at the shortened Midwest Region Fall Classic, led by Wyatt Pfeiffer's 71 that tied for sixth. Nebraska Wesleyan won the event by 10 strokes — the result shows a strong contest in a shortened tournament.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Marian University field hockey won its fifth straight game with a 5-0 shutout against Keuka — senior Jikke Biemans and freshman Charlotte Touw scored key goals to build the early lead. The Sabres controlled the game with a 31-2 shot advantage and held Keuka without a shot on goal.  Envision Greater FDL
