  • Today the Children's Museum of Fond du Lac hosts its Annual Play BIG Touch a Truck Event as part of Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play from 9:00 a.m. to noon—families can explore vehicles including fire trucks and police cars while enjoying outdoor activities and refreshments.  KFIZ
  • SSM Health and Agnesian HealthCare Foundation donated $30,000 to the Holy Family Warming Shelter in downtown Fond du Lac to help homeless residents get hot meals and a clean place to sleep during winter—check presented by Mason Gravelle and Deb Winterhack reinforced the shelter’s vital role in community care.  Envision Greater FDL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a DNR Ranger died from a lightning strike near Fond du Lac County, NOAA advises residents to seek shelter in large buildings or enclosed vehicles during thunderstorms—lightning can strike from over 10 miles away.  KFIZ

  • Action Printing in Fond du Lac will close its facility at N6637 Rolling Meadows Drive on October 31 because the company is stopping the product line — affecting 44 employees.  KFIZ
  • Four Fond du Lac County communities teamed up at the Sept 25 WEDA Fall Best Practices Conference to launch the WRNC Business Opportunity Fund—providing flexible low-interest loans to support rural startups and expansions. The program, partly funded by a $240,000 grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation—has already issued three loans to women-owned businesses and is expected to grow with further collaborations.  Envision Greater FDL

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal agents including the FBI and ICE detained 21 farm workers without legal status at a Walmart parking lot in Manitowoc County on Sept. 25th—most being Latino immigrants whose arrests have sparked fear and concern among local leaders over safety and local dairy operations.  FDL Reporter

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Green Lake showed improvement in blue-green algae after cooler, rainy weather—pollutants from farm runoff and other sources continue to threaten the water as the Green Lake Association works to reduce phosphorous and control invasive species.  FDL Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers waiting at a red light are not allowed to use their hand-held cellphones for texting, and anyone caught doing so risks fines. State officials reported that distracted driving led to 9,261 crashes and 23 fatalities in 2023—figures that highlight the serious risks on our roads.  FDL Reporter

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marian University Sabre women's tennis team won all three doubles matches—6-1, 6-2 and 6-3—but lost overall as Wisconsin Lutheran claimed all six singles flights. Madeline DeVries was the only Sabre to take a set, winning a 7-6 tiebreak before losing the next two sets.  Envision Greater FDL
