  • Local volunteers have organized an annual fundraiser for Leader Dogs for the Blind that now adds a Friday night Dinner in the Dark—set for August 10, 2026 at Avenue 795 in Fond du Lac, with $60 tickets available.  KFIZ
  • Josh Shell, a Fond du Lac native and President/Owner of Badgerland Connections, is featured as YP of the Month for his entrepreneurial leadership and service on local boards like Blueline hockey, St Peter Athletic Club and Marian University’s Construction Management Advisory Board. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wisconsin apple growers advise residents to mix sweet and tart varieties for pies, applesauce and cider—local grower Bill Zeleske of Fondy Fruits and More praises the firm Bonnie Best apple as orchards offer over 300 varieties in the fall season. They recommend combining types like Cortland and McIntosh to balance flavor and texture in recipes.  FDL Reporter
  • On Monday, Dollar Loan Center opened its store in Fond du Lac at West Johnson and North Peters, marking the start of its statewide expansion. It will open a second location at South Main and Pioneer next Monday — the lender offers signature loans up to $5,000.  KFIZ

CRIME NEWS

  • Fond du Lac Police warned students that homecoming week events at several schools, including Fond du Lac High School, could lead to legal trouble if pranks or underage drinking occur + they stressed that students must act responsibly.  KFIZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fond du Lac School District is preparing its next budget which will include a referendum after voters rejected a $40 million proposal in April. Superintendent Matt Steinbarth said staff cuts and schedule changes may lead to school closures and a public hearing is set for Monday, October 13th at 4 p.m.  KFIZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Wisconsin is no longer charging sales tax on household energy bills for permanent residences—this change shifts the former winter-only exemption to year-round—and the new rule is part of a bipartisan state budget. The move is expected to save taxpayers an estimated $178 million over two years and help lower- and middle-income families manage energy costs.  FDL Reporter
  • Wisconsin families in the Shares program will get higher childcare help starting today, with more than 15,000 families saving about $174 each month. Governor Tony Evers signed a state budget that adds over $123 million to boost help—making care more affordable and keeping providers open.  FDL Reporter

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marian University women's golf team finished tied for second at the Edgewood Fall Invite after posting rounds of 330 and 318. Medalist Yinan Lu earned honors for the third time this season with rounds of 76 and 73—she had six birdies between the two rounds.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Sophomore Brayden Johnson of Marian University was named NACC Offensive Player of the Week after he assisted in a 2-0 win over Lakeland and scored a hat trick including the game-winning goal in a 5-0 win over Rockford (bringing his total to 14 points in nine games).
