COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SSM Health gave $10,000 to We EmpowHER to support its Women’s Empowerment Series, which will pair local women with peer mentors and offer weekly sessions on topics such as self-care and domestic violence prevention—this donation is part of ongoing community support for women facing life challenges.  KFIZ
  • Nine Fond du Lac County fire departments will join at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, October 7 to offer free firetruck tours, demonstrations and hands-on safety challenges from 4 to 7 p.m. during Fire Prevention Week, which runs nationally October 5—11, and food trucks will be available.  KFIZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Allegiant Airlines has added a non-stop flight from Appleton Airport to Gulf Shores International Airport that offers travelers an easy way to visit Mobile and Pensacola. The airline offers one-way fares as low as $54 if booked by today and if travel occurs by December 24—flights run on Sundays and Thursdays.  KFIZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Fond du Lac area dropped on October 3—stations showed prices between $2.73 and $2.79, and nearby Waupun and Rosendale saw rates as low as $2.71. AAA noted that while the Wisconsin average is $2.80 and the national average is $3.15, a refinery fire in southern California may drive prices up soon.  KFIZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fond du Lac High School Marching Band performed at the football homecoming halftime show on October 3rd and energized the crowd with lively routines, boosting school spirit.  KFIZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Tony Evers signed a law on Oct. 3 that makes it a felony to distribute sexually explicit deepfakes without consent—violators may face up to 3 1/2 years in prison as the law takes effect today to enhance privacy against advances in AI.  FDL Reporter
  • A Wisconsin bill will fine those who falsely claim their pets as service animals and require landlords to get a prescription for emotional support animals in housing. The legislation aligns state law with federal standards but awaits further action after a public hearing.  FDL Reporter
  • A teen driver was involved in a crash every 28 minutes in Wisconsin as inexperience, distractions, and speeding contributed to the accidents — state guidelines urge parents to talk with their kids about safe driving. The October Law of the Month issued by the Wisconsin State Patrol referenced 2024 crash data and stressed the importance of these safety measures.  KFIZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • NAMI Fond du Lac has launched a free, peer-led mental health support group for adults who have experienced mental health symptoms — the group meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Berry House Drop-In Center at 86 S. Macy St.  FDL Reporter

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fond du Lac Football beat Hortonville 35-13 in a homecoming game on October 3—players secured the win as local fans cheered the team.  KFIZ
  • The Wisconsin Herd will open its new season at Oshkosh Arena on November 11 with a Veterans Day game that gives out military hats and starts a series of theme nights with special giveaways. The team will hold fun events—such as art contests, school matinee games, and heritage celebrations—through March to benefit local charities.  KFIZ
