COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Menards is collecting non-perishable food items for a local pantry—drop boxes are placed near exit doors—to help fight hunger throughout October. The drive will run until Oct. 31.  FDL Reporter

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin launched the Born to Dairy campaign at World Dairy Expo in Madison—showcasing real farmers with nicknames like Farm MacGyver and Dairyland Darling to break old stereotypes. The campaign hopes consumers will connect with the faces behind our dairy products and support Wisconsin farmers.  FDL Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laconia High School — part of the Rosendale-Brandon School District serving 292 students — was named one of the nation's best high schools by U.S. News & World Report, finishing in the top 40% of public schools based on college readiness, state assessment scores, and graduation rates.  Envision Greater FDL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Envision Greater Fond du Lac is enrolling people in its Public Office Preparation 101 program which had a session on November 12 last year and will hold another on November 5 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The course teaches candidates how to complete paperwork, raise money, and run a campaign—taught by former state representatives.  Envision Greater FDL
  • On Wednesday, 56th District Representative David Murphy updated his listed address to Greenville Drive so that his residency now shows inside the district after earlier listing an address on North Lake Road outside the district—constituents have raised concerns about his two residences, and Murphy said he is renting a room in the district while owning a retirement home outside. He will serve until his term ends and has stated he will not run for re-election.  WBAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health donated $5,000 to Fond du Lac County United Way to support its Ride United program + which helps residents get rides to medical, dental, and other essential appointments. The contribution aims to ease transportation challenges and improve access to needed services.  Envision Greater FDL
  • ThedaCare will host an open house on Oct. 16 at its Waupaca Medical Center to celebrate one year of using the da Vinci surgical robot for precise, minimally invasive procedures. The event will run from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. — visitors can tour the facility, enjoy light refreshments, and watch interactive demonstrations.  Envision Greater FDL

  • Junior Yinan Lu was named NACC Golfer of the Week for the second time this season after scoring rounds of 76 and 73 at the Edgewood Fall Invite—helping lead Marian to its best round with a 318, while her championship results were not counted.  Envision Greater FDL
