- ➤ Rail fans gathered in Waupun on October 26 to view the historic Soo Line 1003 steam locomotive as it pulled nine rail cars and a caboose during a paid photo op celebrating its 10-year anniversary on YouTube—fans saw the engine travel through secret stops before it returned to its home base in Hartford. Built in 1913 and maintained by the Steam Locomotive Heritage Association, the locomotive drew enthusiasts from Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties. KFIZ

- ➤ Fond du Lac’s Mercury Marine was honored with the Governor’s Export Achievement Award for growing its exports as recognized by Gov Tony Evers, one of three companies to be honored. Company President John Buelow said the firm will continue to expand internationally by making high-quality marine engines and related products. KFIZ

- ➤ Wisconsin officials announced on Oct. 25 that FoodShare users can use remaining funds on their QUEST cards through November despite earlier advice to exhaust balances by October. The change comes amid federal funding issues and state discussions over temporary support (clarifying the continued availability of benefits). FDL Reporter
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A ThedaCare doctor said sepsis is a serious emergency that happens when the body overreacts to an infection (with signs such as fast heart rate, low blood pressure, fever, or chills) and can quickly lead to organ damage. The hospital is piloting a program (teaching patients to monitor changes in their condition) so people can act fast to prevent worsening illness. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic welcomes new urology nurse practitioner Claire Carlton at 420 E. Division Street, where she now sees patients for urinary incontinence, kidney stones, and BPH. - ➤ The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders were named Promotion of the Year by the Northwoods League for hosting Caleb Durbin nights on June 5 and July 2, where the former player visited and signed autographs. - ➤ Marian University women's soccer clinched a postseason bid with a 2-0 win over Concordia Chicago, with senior Brianna Guelig scoring in the 16th minute and freshman Allegra Hong sealing the win in the first half—earning them a spot in the NACC Tournament for the third straight season. - ➤ Marian University field hockey played strong defense but lost to Rhodes 1—0 when Rhodes scored 1:37 into the fourth quarter. Rhodes dominated the game with more shots on goal and penalty corners than Marian. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Marian field hockey won a nail-biter game against Sewanee, 2-1—freshman Shaelyn Klassen and senior Allyson Nichols scored in the fourth quarter to secure the win and end their trip to Tennessee. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Marian women's volleyball team reversed swept Concordia Chicago in a five-set match as they lost the first two sets but rallied to win the next three—25–12, 25–21, and 15–9—for their first five-set win in six tries. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Marian University men’s soccer won 4-1 over Concordia Chicago on Senior Day as Brayden Johnson scored two goals and Nathan Blazenko added a solo goal—tying the all-time series at 8-8-3.
