- ➤ Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Leadership Fond du Lac County Alumni will host Empty Bowls at Avenue 795 on December 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.—guests can choose to dine in or pre-order take-out at 12:30 p.m., with $18 tickets that benefit local food pantries while offering six soups, a bakery item, dessert, and a chance to win raffle baskets or take home a keepsake. - ➤ Rev. Matthew Kirk of Holy Family Catholic Community will spend Nov 18 on the roof of the Holy Family Warming Shelter (73 E. First St.) to raise $55,000 for the shelter's winter services that help up to 36 guests each night. Local sponsors and businesses will match donations hourly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week. FDL Reporter
- ➤ Serenity Villa Assisted Living submitted a permit application to expand its services on North Baumann Street to add more accommodations and improve amenities for seniors. The Village Planning Commission and consulting engineers approved the site plan—clearing the way for the next steps in construction and permitting in Campbellsport. KFIZ
- ➤ Fond du Lac Fire Rescue will host an American Red Cross blood drive at Fire Station 1, located at 815 south Main on Friday, November 7 from noon to 5 p.m. The drive aims to collect life-saving donations that are needed every 2 to 3 seconds in our community — each unit makes a difference. KFIZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Tony Evers signed a bipartisan law on Oct. 31 that limits cell phone use in school classrooms. School boards must create policies by July—allowing exceptions for emergencies, health needs, and school-issued devices—while Evers said his decision aimed to protect kids from distractions and help them focus. - ➤ Wisconsinites will set their clocks back tomorrow when daylight saving time ends between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.—daylight saving time will begin again on March 8. FDL Reporter
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Demytra Mihailidis of ThedaCare Cancer Care clarified myths about breast cancer detection and explained that women should focus on breast self-awareness instead of outdated self-exams (which can delay proper screening). The hospital now offers (3D) mammograms that lower false positives and prompt timely follow-up if extra tests are needed. KFIZ
