COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Envision Greater Fond du Lac received the NEW Manufacturing Alliance’s Community Partnership Award on October 28 for its Project G.R.I.L.L. that teaches high school students about manufacturing and skilled trades—Emily Waisanen accepted the award on behalf of the organization.  KFIZ
  • After a November 4 board meeting, the Fond du Lac County Health Department assumed responsibility for local food security efforts as federal funding cuts delayed SNAP benefits and increased the strain on food pantries. About 10,000 residents will receive partial benefits this November — with officials urging donations and volunteer support to help families in need.  Envision Greater FDL

  • Cornerstone Funeral and Cremation Services joined the Werner Harmsen family to keep offering personalized care in Beaver Dam and Markesan—Werner Harmsen now manages operations and plans interior renovations at the Markesan location with a community open house scheduled once complete.  Envision Greater FDL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On November 6, 2025, the Wisconsin State Patrol urged drivers to slow down or move over when they see flashing lights to protect emergency responders working along busy highways. The reminder comes ahead of Crash Responder Safety Week from November 17–21, with fines of 263 dollars for violations and harsher penalties if crashes occur.  KFIZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Benjamin Duffy from ThedaCare Weight Wellness Solutions said patients should slowly lower their GLP-1 dose over about two months to help avoid a rapid return of hunger and regain up to 80% of lost weight (so a doctor can guide safe changes). Working with a health care provider helps adjust treatment and manage side effects over time.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Sisters of St. Mary broke ground on a $15 million cancer care facility expansion in Fond du Lac—adding 12,000 square feet and more parking to house new medical, radiation and infusion services. The project serves patients from 29 counties and will open in early 2027.  WBAY
  • Erica Smedberg, an ICU nurse at St. Agnes Hospital, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses after a patient's family nominated her for her compassionate care. She was honored during a brief ceremony and accepted a certificate and pin—showing her commitment to helping patients during critical times.  Envision Greater FDL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marian University field hockey defeated CUW 3-0 to advance to the CFHC Tournament Semifinals—marking the Sabres' first conference tournament win. Senior Jikke Biemans scored early while junior Angelene Castro assisted on two goals and sophomore Chloe Yanez added the final score.  Envision Greater FDL
  • Four Sabres from Marian University women’s soccer earned All-Conference honors on the NACC team. Junior Emily Gordillo received her third consecutive First Team nod while senior Brianna Guelig, returning from an injury, earned her first Second Team nod, and senior Chelsea King with freshman Kendall Graves earned honorable mentions as Marian qualified for the NACC Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.  Envision Greater FDL
