EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fond du Lac School District released its 2024-25 State Report Card, ranking 175 out of 420 and earning an Exceeds Expectations rating not seen since 2016-17. Most schools improved with Parkside Elementary rising to Significantly Exceeded Expectations while the high school dropped to Meets Few Expectations — district leaders are now working with high school staff to raise its performance next year. - ➤ Dock Spiders introduced Weaver’s Reading Club for the 2025-2026 school year—registration is now open for area teachers and coordinators to enroll pre-K through sixth grade classes with support from Timber Rattlers Give Back, and students who meet their reading goals will earn game tickets and a special hat. - ➤ Area schools can now register for the 2025-2026 Weaver’s Reading Club, a program supported by Timber Rattlers Give Back that offers free Dock Spiders game tickets and special hats to students who meet their reading goals. Teachers may enroll their classes by emailing the team’s director of Marketing (Nikki Zerjav) and can tailor the program to meet their students' needs for the upcoming school year. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wisconsin residents saw the northern lights on November 11-12 and November 12-13 due to a strong geomagnetic storm — forecasts had predicted the colorful display for northern and central areas overnight November 13-14 as the sun reached solar maximum. FDL Reporter
- ➤ Wisconsinites saw dazzling northern lights on Nov. 11 and 12 as strong geomagnetic storms lit up the night sky (NASA explains this happens when the sun’s wind meets Earth’s magnetic field). Residents can use Space Weather Prediction Center tools (a general viewline forecast and a short-term forecast) to check when the aurora might reappear, though cloudy conditions could limit views between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. FDL Reporter
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Internal Medicine nurse Kristee Glaman received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at Fond du Lac Regional Clinic on October 30 for her work in getting a patient emergency care and supporting his family. She was honored with a certificate, a DAISY pin, and a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch—recognizing her compassion and skill in patient care. Envision Greater FDL
