COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fond du Lac law enforcement joined Walmart shoppers on Dec. 4 for the annual Shop with a Cop event, where donated funds allowed selected kids to shop for toys and essential items. Donations for next year's event can be arranged through the sheriff's office.  KFIZ
  • Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue launches its Keep The Wreath Green program (Dec. 1 to Jan. 1) to remind residents to use holiday lights safely during the cold season. The wreaths at fire stations begin with green lights and switch to red after a structure fire to signal extra caution.  KFIZ
  • The Solutions Center is hosting Pictures with Santa today from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Envision Greater Fond du Lac (23 S. Main St., Suite 201) where families can enjoy activities, snacks and donate to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Solutions Center and St. Katherine Drexel Homeless Shelter.  KFIZ
  • The Fond du Lac Public Library hosts its annual Winter Wonderland with two nights of wintry crafts, games, a Santa photo and book giveaway by the Evening Optimists in the Children’s Library (Lower Level), and sessions on Tue, Dec. 9 require registration starting Tue, Nov. 25 at 9 a.m.  KFIZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices at area stations dropped from $2.69 to $2.54 on Thursday, Dec. 4, marking the lowest rates in years as reported by AAA. Local prices reached $2.51 in Rosendale and Waucousta + remain well below state and national averages due to lower crude oil costs and limited fuel demand.  KFIZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A ranking of the warmest Decembers in Wisconsin shows that December 2023 (the hottest) recorded an average temperature of 32.2°F, a monthly high of 38.5°F, and 1.47 inches of rain. The data, compiled from records dating back to 1895 by Stacker, highlights rising climate trends in the state.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oneida Nation said it was pleased with a federal ruling that allowed nearly 500 acres (21 parcels) in Hobart to become tribal trust land and promised to work with the village on trust land issues.  WBAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital was recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review for having no cases of catheter-associated urinary tract infections based on CMS data from 2024 + it is one of only 11 hospitals in Wisconsin to reach this safety mark.  Envision Greater FDL
  • The CDC advisory panel voted on Dec. 5 to change hepatitis B vaccination timing so that newborns of mothers who test negative can be vaccinated after 2 months (Wisconsin pediatricians will follow current guidelines until state health officials update their recommendations). In 2024, about 83% of state children completed the vaccine series.  FDL Reporter

  • Data from Realtor.com shows that in September, home sale prices in Fond du Lac County dropped 14.6% from August to a median of $249,450 — single-family homes fell 15.6% while condos and townhomes rose 20.4%.  FDL Reporter
