ECONOMY NEWS

  • Regional gas prices in the Midwest slightly dropped for a second consecutive week, reaching $2.69 per gallon on Monday. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports prices are 7% lower than a year ago and have declined 22 cents since last month.  FDL Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marian University softball will host a Winter Academy every Saturday from January 24 to February 14 at Lenz Fieldhouse (sessions split by grade focus on hitting, defense, pitching and catching with registration by mail only).  Envision Greater FDL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. House passed a bill to remove federal protections for gray wolves, a measure introduced by Congressman Tom Tiffany after supporters claimed the species, which now numbers over 4,000 between Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, has recovered. The bill now moves to the Senate.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City offices and services in Fond du Lac will close on Dec 24–26 and Dec 31–Jan 2 for the holidays; garbage, recycling, and bulky waste pick-ups are adjusted and transit is off on Dec 24, 25, 31 and Jan 1. The Police and Fire Departments remain operational.  Envision Greater FDL

  • Brandon Ryan, a patient access rep at SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital, received the BEE Award for excellent service after a patient praised his warm and personal approach in the emergency room.  Envision Greater FDL
