COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The 'Lights On Afterschool' event drew nearly 490 community members who enjoyed crafts, caramel apples, popcorn, and games as the Fond du Lac Family YMCA and Boys & Girls Club celebrated the impact of afterschool programs. The Family Strengthening series supporting youth development will continue with a New Year's Eve Bash (scheduled for December 31 from 1:00-4:00pm). Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ The City of Fond du Lac celebrated the ribbon-cutting for the Promen Drive Bridge replacement in Lakeside Park on November 5th—almost 100 years after the original was built—and opened the bridge for foot and bike traffic only, with no car access announced. The project also added 12 parking spaces to the Lakeside Park Pavilion lot after Promen Drive was closed through much of summer and fall. KFIZ
- ➤ Leadership Fond du Lac County Alumni will host Empty Bowls on December 3 at Avenue 795 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., offering guests the choice to dine in or order take-out (available only at 12:30 p.m.) with a ticket price of $18 that includes six soups, a bakery item, dessert, and water or milk. The event will raise funds for local food pantries to fight hunger. Envision Greater FDL
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wisconsin DNR announced that the 2025 gun deer hunting season will begin on November 22 and continue through November 30, and hunters should review updated Deer Management Unit boundaries (now habitat-based) before heading out. Hunters must register harvested deer electronically by 5 p.m. the day after recovery and follow safety requirements such as wearing blaze orange clothing. KFIZ

- ➤ The SBA announced that the deadline for physical damage loan applications is extended to Nov 12 for businesses and residents in Wisconsin counties hit by August storms, allowing eligible borrowers in areas such as Milwaukee, Washington, and Waukesha to secure funds for repairs and upgrades. Borrowers in adjacent counties, including Fond Du Lac, can apply for economic injury loans and may qualify for a 20% loan increase for mitigation improvements (like wind-rated garage doors or safe rooms) to reduce future damage. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Tony Sabel, a 40-year-old wheelchair rugby player (paralyzed in a college accident) from Fond du Lac County, is helping with research on improving breathing after spinal cord injuries at Marquette University. Researchers led by professor Kristi Streeter use electrical stimulation on the diaphragm (a method that may build new nerve paths) and have received a 2.7 million NIH grant to continue their work. - ➤ Today, SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic is offering a new pain treatment called PRP injection therapy—using the body’s own healing platelets to help with joint and tendon pain when other methods have not worked. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Dr. Demytra Mihailidis from ThedaCare explained that mammograms remain the reliable screening tool for early breast cancer detection while thermography does not replace them, and she advised patients to rely on breast self-awareness instead of outdated self-exam routines. - ➤ ThedaCare is offering virtual care options that let Fond du Lac residents speak with a health care provider from home. Patients can choose an eVisit for simple symptoms or a video visit for more detailed concerns and should seek in-person care if their symptoms are severe. Envision Greater FDL
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Marian University field hockey beat CUW 4-0 to clinch the No. 3 seed for the CFHC Tournament and set a record with its 10th win. Freshman Shaelyn Klassen scored twice while Charlotte Touw assisted and scored and seniors Allyson Nichols and Jikke Biemans finished the game to boost Marian's record against CUW to 9-1. - ➤ Three Marian University field hockey Sabres earned CFHC honors as Charlotte Touw was named Newcomer of the Year and senior Jikke Biemans along with junior Angelene Castro received All-Conference recognition, while freshman Nora McDowell made the All-Sportsmanship Team—Marian will play Concordia today at 2 p.m. from Smith Field. - ➤ Marian University women’s bowling team competed at the Windy City Classic, finishing Baker play in eighth place and scoring nearly the same in traditional play. The Sabres averaged 173.5 pins with wins over ranked teams like McKendree, UW-Whitewater, and Maryville — though they lost twice to Western Illinois in bracket play. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Marian University women's ice hockey beat Beloit 5-2 in its season opener as the team scored four goals in the third period—its first season-opening win since 2015-16. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Marian University women’s volleyball beat Dominican by sweeping all sets 25—14, 25—9, and 25—15. The team recorded 40 kills and 15 aces and now holds an 8—18 record against Dominican with wins in two of their last three contests. Envision Greater FDL
- ➤ Junior Emilee Clarey of Marian field hockey and sophomore Wyatt Pfeiffer of men's golf were named Sabres of the Month for October. Clarey had a 2.34 goals-against average with a .727 save percentage—earning her Defensive Player of the Week—while Pfeiffer finished 10-above-par at the NACC Championship—earning him All-NACC honors.
